Birchfield Penuel & Associates, Architects was established in 1987 by William C. Birchfield, AIA and Charles E. Penuel, AIA for the primary purpose of providing master planning and design services for healthcare, research, institutional and senior care projects in the Central Alabama region. The Principals and Senior Associates of BPA have focused their professional careers within the healthcare and institutional design field. Their combined experience of over 50 years in healthcare and institutional design enables them to maintain a current working knowledge of regulations, patient care models, technology, construction cost and market trends. The firm has grown to include a compliment of registered Architects, architectural interns, technical production staff, and administrative support personnel, all dedicated to our clients' success.
Birchfield Penuel and Associates strives to understand the unique needs and problems of each client. All members of our staff have distinctive design and technical expertise and are assembled into the most appropriate project team to meet the client's needs. BPA's professional staff includes over 7 registered Architects, 3 graduate Architects and 3 interior designers. As a result of the firm's healthcare and institutional focus, the entire staff has extensive experience with current medical planning concepts and modern medical technology critical to today's healthcare providers.
The staff of BPA understands that when professional expertise appropriately complements our Client's vision, a successful long-term relationship results. We are proud to have maintained on-going relationships with four of our healthcare clients of nine, seventeen, eighteen and twenty years. The satisfaction of our Client's is our most relevant measure of the services we provide. Responding to our client's needs with successful and creative solutions has resulted in our Principals being recognized by various periodicals including Newsweek, Architecture, Modern Healthcare, and Architectural Record. The firm has also been recognized for design excellence by the Alabama Council of the American Institute of Architects.
